Ariel

i would love to

disappear,

float away on
the ocean in
a string of
bubbles on the
water.

blue, green, blue
and nothingness

all

gone

away

Spring Gold

The golden petals dance
in the spring sunshine
newly born from
the hazed, grey fog
of winter to
smile in all their
newness and delight
at the universe.

Oh small petals
fluttering in the breeze
how you little you know
of hardship and
travail - and yet
your gladness melts
the sadness lying
in my heart -
even if it's only
for a moment.

Walking in Darkness

to lie down in the darkness,
in the hardness
of existence
and rest a while seems

but a dream to forever
chase through the muddy
effluence of being
that is life.

to lie down a while
while waiting to take
the next step in the plodding
ever onward darkness,
night unending.

I will wander in the
darkness for more
than a few hours --
I think

it does not seem
like I will ever reach
the tree at all.

Silence

In the silence, I can hear,
can hear you breathing -
in, and out, and in
again. Seeking oxygen
here in the darkness.
I cannot see your face,
nor do I know who you
are - we strangers on this
globe of earth and fire;
trapped, entangled in the
pain and death and fear
that rains down in cement
chunks and wrangled iron
bones that once were
buildings. Down here
there is no light, only
silence scattered by the
dust motes of a thousand
minutes stretching by
into where we one day will
go. After tonight, I may
never see you again, my
oxygen companion of
these hours past. Perhaps,
one day we might meet
in a park, pass by,
in the sunlight, and
never know that it was I,
I who shared your breathing;
the one night of silence
among the chaos.
