Not in deserts
but rather oceans
do we feel
unquenchable thirst
and lift our
heads
and
hands
and
hearts
to scream with
entitled (?) anger
mixed with hurt and
shame.
No mocking glances
quell
the heartache
not knowing
why we cannot drink
while others
never seem to thirst.
It is only in the drought
where we know
the worth of
true water
and long for it
even more.

Sometimes Darkness is Comforting
sometimes looking
up at the sky from
midnight deep
wells of misunderstood
silence and sadness,
anger, hurt.
sometimes wondering
why now? why not?
why him? why her?
why what?
sometimes thinking
about futures
forgotten,
dreams left
at wayside stops
of lingering pain
and perseverance.
sometimes hoping
hurts too much.
sometimes faith-seeking
feels to hard
to carry on.
sometimes the darkness
is comforting
because it teaches us
why we yearn for light.

Life Webs
In tangled dreams
of interconnected
webs we weave -
of people, places,
things -
lie caught
moments,
conversation,
filament-strands
woven in words,
glances, touch.
Not to trap,
rather
to reform
the broken
dreams
of childhood
lost.
These tangled dreams
and - now
us intertwined -
changed -
we can never go back.

Lighthouse Moments
Lighthouse moments
of dark between
circling light
illuminate the loneliness
of longing, hope caught
in missed timing
as waves of fate
crash breaking
on the shore.
Finding you between
those moments
when silent shadow
marks time of waiting
for a gap between
the rocks.
For a moment
your face, caught
in light
before the shadow
blankets you again in darkness.
What is it that we are doing
in these missed half-moments
before the light?
Will I find you
before the storm sweeps me out to sea?
